Birthday Celebrations

Steve's birthday (February 25th) was on a Wednesday this year, which meant that I had to work that night.  I simply asked him to leave work an hour early so that he could open his presents (and not feel rushed) before I needed to leave.  He gladly obliged.

My whole world sitting at the table -- and all looking at the camera:

We asked Samantha to take a picture of us.  She did pretty well, aside from the fact that she managed to catch the top of Jack's head in the picture, ha!

The kids and I each made our own cards for Steve by recycling other cards that we had.  It was SO much fun for them to choose pictures and put their own words on the cards.  And I think that Steve enjoyed it too!

Steve does not care for sweet frosting and cake very much, so I try to make something a little less sugary for him every year -- usually an angel food cake or muffins.  No matter what, we always have candles though.  No birthday is complete without candles.

This picture was taken when I was at work, after the spaghetti and meatball dinner that I had prepared for them.  (I think that it is safe to assume that someone sampled the cake ahead of time).

On Sophia's birthday (February 26th),  we celebrated with cinnamon rolls for breakfast.  And four candles for the special birthday girl, of course!

Steve had surprised us by baking a cake for Sophia and me (my birthday was the next day).  He must have baked it the night before, when I was teaching, and then frosted it before he left for work.  It was so thoughtful!

Making a wish and blowing out her candles:

After breakfast, with a few minutes to spare before we had to leave for school, Sophia got to open two of her presents.

And then after lunch that day, I lit the candles on Sophia's cake and Jack and her got to enjoy a piece for their dessert (Sam was still in school).

It's safe to say that Jack is really getting the hang of this whole birthday thing.  He should be an expert by the time his birthday rolls around in May ...

My birthday, the last one in line (February 27th), was a very low-key event.  Steve and I did get to go out to dinner together (and a movie!) and I opened a couple of gifts after breakfast that morning.  Notice how the kids were all doing their own thing.

Here's to a wonderful year ... and the hope that all of our birthday wishes come true!
