A Fairy Birthday Party

A year ago, Samantha had already decided that she wanted a fairy birthday party when she turned five.  I held my breath, hoping that she didn't change her mind.

I loved the idea and was excited about the chance to slowly accumulate decorations and ideas as the year unfolded.

Samantha stayed true to her word, and in typical fashion for me, I made sure to include her in as many projects as I could ... watching as the magic came alive in her eyes.  Her party was everything she wanted.

And ok.  Everything that I wanted too.

The dessert table is always one of my most favorite places at our birthday parties.  It is a tradition that I make and decorate all of the cakes and cupcakes myself.  Steve knows and understands just how special this is for me, so he just steps back and lets me do my thing.  Sam loved it!

I covered a painting that usually hangs on that wall with wrapping paper and set to work late one night (while Steve was up north hunting) decorating it with random things that I had in my craft kit.  When the girls woke up the next morning, it was hanging there and all they could do was stare at it.  I like it so much that it continues to hang in the dining room!

I made chocolate covered "fairy wands" using pretzel sticks and a few sprinkles.

A few weeks before the party, the girls helped me make little fairies out of silk flowers and a wooden bead.  We made three different types and then scattered them throughout the decorations.

Samantha helped me make a moss-covered "5" to use as a decoration.  It was a time-consuming project, but she stuck with it!

As a party favor for the kids, I made some magical pixie dust with a note that read, "Little girls' dreams are of magical things."  I put glow-in-the-dark paint inside the glass bottles and sprinkled clear crystals in there.  The jar glows while they are sleeping and they LOVE it!

The girls each received a set of fairy wings, a fairy wand and a flower for their hair:

Our little fairies:

I always like to use different frames as decorations at my parties.  Sam helped with this fairy frame:

Aunt Minnie came a few minutes early and did some fairy paint for the girls.  Too cute!

My little fairy girls:

My mom surprised the kids by coming to the party dressed up as a leaf fairy!

We served beef and shredded chicken tacos with all of the fixings for birthday event.  I gave Samantha a couple of choices for food items to serve and that is what she chose.  I think that everyone will agree that it was a good choice!

After everyone was full from dinner, we migrated to the living room so that Sam could open her (many) gifts.

Doc McStuffins gifts from Aunt Minnie:

Stuffy the Dragon was meant to be for Samantha, but Sophia has pretty much claimed it for herself (and luckily Sam doesn't seem to mind!):

Olivia the Pig book:

Both of my girls love the Olivia books, and coincidentally, Sophia has chosen Olivia as the theme for her 3rd birthday.  The wheels are already turning in my head for that party (which is 3 months away).

Jack spent much of the present time on the floor playing with the tissue paper:

Yes, Christmas is going to be so fun this year with him!

After opening up presents, we headed into the dining room for cake (or cupcakes) and ice cream.  Samantha never stopped smiling.

Making a wish:

Happy birthday, baby girl!
