Every year, for about two weeks, the mosquitos are BAD around our house. It is inevitable that the first "hatching" of them will be almost unbearable because we have woods behind our house and a lake across from our house -- we are right in between.
It seems as though the hatching is a little later this year (I remember how horrible the mosquitos were when I came home with Jack from the hospital last year -- we even went so far as to carry a fly swatter with us in the van!). With them taking over our yard and driveway, at least for another week, I decided that the girls and I needed to have some things to work on inside the house.
So, I loaded up the kids and made a trip to the craft store a few days ago. We surveyed the aisles and finally agreed on a few inexpensive projects that would keep us busy for a few mornings (while Jack is napping).
Our first project was to decorate some cute "spit cups" for the bathroom. The girls like to "swish and spit" after brushing their teeth, but it seems that they never know which cup belongs to which person. While I could just label the cups with their names, this seemed like a great idea. We have enough to make at least five more cups for each girl (as these start to fall apart)! We did have to improvise with some of the parts, but I think that they definitely turned out cute!
Sophia chose to make an orange fox with a blue cup:
Samantha chose to make a pink squirrel with a green cup:

With their finished products -- definitely some happy girls:
