Snow Days

Within in the last week alone, we have had three snow days -- three!  Some of time off from school was the result of absolutely frigid temperatures and the other days were due to a major snowstorm that moved into our area on Super Bowl Sunday, delivering over a foot of snow.

With extra time at home, I managed to work in a few extra activities to keep my home-bound kids occupied.

The girls made "egg carton caterpillars," an activity that we try to do a couple times a year that draws from their creative side.  I gather paint and some random odds and ends from my craft kit and let them use their imagination.

Samantha used bright "spring-like" colors and I couldn't help but sigh ... wishing for a little Spring-time weather here.

Sophia used her own palette of colors, but soon learned that choosing black will most certainly mute any other previously-used colors ...

I just love catching them hard at work and deep in concentration:

A little paint on the counter?  No problem, it wipes up just as easily and it went on there.

Sophia has always stuck her tongue out when she was concentrating!

Just a few more humps to paint:

The final masterpieces:

Afterwards, the kids wanted to eat at their small table, so they hauled it (and a baby doll) into the kitchen and set it up for themselves.  Jack thought that he was SO GROWN-UP to be able to sit there and have lunch with his big sisters ...

On another day, I set the kids up in the kitchen with Play-Doh.  The girls enjoy this so much and could really spend hours each day rolling and cutting it.  This was Jack's first time playing with Play-Doh, and I think that he enjoyed it.  (His attention span with it was only about 15 minutes, but that's pretty good for someone as young as he is).

How did we know that she would choose purple?

Sam's hair was a bit wild, but that's what happens when you go outside no less than four times and take a hat on and off again each time!

Mid-Month Randoms

Sophia is incredibly excited about our strawberry plant coming back to life this Spring.  As of the 3rd week in May, it has already starting...
