On Saturday, Steve and I took the girls to the Impression 5 Museum in Lansing for the first time. Initially, when we told Sam where we were going, she seemed quite disappointed that there weren't going to be any dinosaurs or animals to see; rather, we explained that it would be a fun place to use all five of your senses and to learn about the fascinating things.
I took a quick picture of the girls before we left (which is getting harder and harder to do lately).
The first thing that Samantha got to experience was this pulley system that made a bubble around her. She loved it! The whole time, Sophia kept shouting, "bubble, bubble!"
Steve showed Sam how to line up a series of blocks so that they fall in a domino effect. Sophia was more interested in the blocks themselves.
Playing in the construction zone:
Following in her daddy's footsteps ... practicing to be an engineer:
Even Sophia got in on the action:
And then she decided that she wanted to do it all by herself:
I made Sam pose in this eyeball because she is obsessed with them. She never says, "eye" in conversation; she always says, "eyeball." For example, "Momma, look at that frog's eyeball..."
Watching the ferrofluid:
Sophia loved picking up magnets with her daddy:
She also enjoyed watching her daddy pedal on a bicycle, generating enough energy to light up a lightbulb.
Probably not the most sterile thing, but in a flash, Sophia lunged out of her stroller so that she could kiss herself on the mirror. It was cute.
I posed with Sam for a quick photo in front of one of my favorite sections, the chemistry display. Note the periodic table in the background!
There was a nice room designed for children from birth to 4 years olf age. It was the last place we visited and both of the girls had a lot of fun in there.
Sam spent a lot of her time in the kitchen area, feeding the dolls.
Sophia was so fascinated with this hammer and block set.
There were even tumble mats for the little kids.
And a water table for anyone that was interested. I didn't have to ask Sam twice; she was already taking off her shoes and sprinting into the designated water area.
All in all, I think that we stayed about an hour and a half. We bought a year membership and plan to go back at least a couple more times. We could tell that the girls were getting a little tired, and it was pretty hot in there (no air conditioning -- just fans!).
After we had some lunch and stopped my Grandma and Grandpa Lapinski's house for a quick visit, we hit the road to head for home. Within ten minutes, Sophia was fast asleep.
And it wasn't long before Samantha followed suit.
