After a homemade waffle breakfast, we got the kids dressed so that we would be out of the door by 8:45 am. The girls wore their bathing suits under their festive dresses, knowing that there would be water activities down at our subdivision park. We walked down our road a little distance and waited for the annual parade that travels from the head of the subdivision, past our house and down to the park.
As usual these days, Jack was a little disinterested; but he still tried to show a little spirit for the holiday:
Watching/waiting for the parade to meet up with us so that we could join in:
When the parade came by, the driver of the fire truck stopped to see if the girls wanted to ride in it down to the park. Sam was eager to jump in ...
Steve climbed in with Sam and we strongly encouraged Sophia to ride along. As you can see, she was NOT happy about that. I think that she was just intimidated by the huge truck (even though she has seen/been in one before).
Ultimately, Steve had to hand Sophia back out the window to me (while holding up the whole parade). Then, Sophia just walked with Jack and me to the park. She was content to do that, even though she kept saying, "Me miss Sammy. Miss you, Daddy," the whole way there.
Once we finally got to the park, there were refreshments set up, as well as activities for the kids to partake in. Samantha was already hard at work, coloring a mask.
The girls each got to choose a patriotic temporary tattoo (a favorite thing of theirs lately!).
Sporting their new tattoos -- a flag for Sophia and a firework for Samantha:
The girls then stripped down to their bathing suits so that they could enjoy some time at the beach.
One of their favorite things was decorating a cupcake. Somehow, I got distracted and Sam overdosed on the sprinkles!
That didn't stop her from enjoying it ...
And Sophia chose blue frosting -- of course ... the messiest choice.
She managed to eat the whole thing, too.
That girl just makes me smile.
Hanging out with my little man:

Afterwards, we came back to our house and let the girls run through the sprinkler. They had been bugging us for days, but we kept putting it off because of the rain that we had for several days in a row. Finally, we gave in and let them have the time of their lives.
After naps, we headed over to our friends' house so that the girls could play on their new play set and we could grill hot dogs. It was a big hit!
Before we left, the girls got to do sparklers. This was their first time with them, and they caught on to the concept pretty quickly.

Finally, we came home and I worked on getting Jack ready for bed while the girls played outside with Steve and attempted to catch come fireflies. Once Jack was settled down for the night, I joined them outside to watch the fireworks across the lake. It was a beautiful ending to a perfect holiday ...
