Meeting Cousin Louie

This was a busy weekend for us, celebrating Jack's first birthday ... and also celebrating the birth of my little nephew.  Much like Jack, he decided to make his debut a little earlier than planned and we were so excited to meet him.

My sister and her husband had chosen to be surprised on the gender of the baby, so it was very exciting to share not only his birth weight and length, but also his name.  Luis Alberto (Louie) was born by emergency c-section (after laboring for a long time) at 7:39 am on May 18th.  He weighed a mere 5 lbs 4 oz and was 19 inches long with LOTS of black hair.

Holding him for the first time:

My mom and I were at the hospital all night with my sister and got to hold him shortly after he was born.  It was such an incredible moment being "on the other side of things" and being able to help my sister to nurse him for the first time.

After I came back home, had a shower, some lunch and a quick nap, Steve and I went back up to the hospital with the kids so that they could meet their new little cousin.

The girls love elevators and always place bets on which one is going to open first:

Seeing their little cousin for the first time:

Jack preferred to see him from a distance.

I tried to see if Jack was interested in him, but he wasn't really.

Samantha was SO EXCITED to be able to hold him.  She has been waiting anxiously for Aunt Minnie to have her baby "in May," and the time had finally come!

For some reason, Sophia wasn't quite as excited to hold him, but eventually warmed up to the idea.

Checking out his tiny feet:

And of course, what trip to the Mother-Baby Ward at the hospital would be complete without a quick trip to the pantry for some graham crackers??!!

Welcome to the world, Baby Louie!
