We arranged to meet up with Steve's dad on Friday for dinner and to give him some of the goodies that we had baked -- brownies, chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies. After dinner, Steve stayed with his dad for a bit -- chatting and catching up -- while I took the kids to a nearby park and then home for baths and bedtime.

On Saturday, the kids and I headed out to the orchard to meet up with my dad. Sam had made a card for him (along with a drawing) and we also brought him a big platter of our desserts. After lunch, the kids played until they were all tuckered out and then I headed back home with them for naps. While we were gone, Steve managed to tear part of our back deck apart (he is planning to build a newer, bigger one in a few weeks!).
After naps, we made a trip down to the beach while dinner cooked in the oven. It was a beautiful day to do this and it was made even better to come home to a nice meal after baths. (Pictures to follow in another post).

On Sunday morning, we began our day with homemade pancakes and eggs. After that, the girls were SO excited to present Steve with their gifts. They were involved in every stage leading up to that point -- decorating, signing cards, wrapping the presents, etc.
(Samantha did her own card; I wrote exactly what Sophia told me to on the front of her card)
Inside each of the cards was a Father's Day questionnaire.

The loves of my life, sporting their Detroit Tigers shirts:
The excitement on the girls' faces made me smile. And then there's Jack -- poor guy -- the intensity of the celebration was a bit much for him ...
The girls each made their own homemade painted mugs for Steve. Sam chose to decorate hers with hearts and Sophia did hers with her handprints. Ironically, that morning, Steve was using a mug that I had made for him on his first Father's Day five years ago.
Steve also received some new cologne from me. Jack did show a little interest in that!
Another special gift that we made for him was a framed picture of a tree with the kids' handprints as the leaves/branches on the tree. Each child did their handprint in a different shade of green. Whew! Jack's was NOT easy to do. The picture is now hanging in our living room.
Later in the afternoon, Steve set to work tearing down the remaining half of the old deck. Guess who was absolutely glued to the window watching his daddy? Jack must have sat there for a full 30 minutes just watching him!
Finally, we ended our day with grilling some chicken on the back patio (because the deck was nonexistent at that point). And again, Jack wasn't far from his daddy ...
Learning how to baste chicken with barbeque sauce:
It's hard to imagine that at this same time last year, Jack was just a little baby (less than a month old). Now he is on a verge of being a toddler and scooting from one location to another!
