Dear Santa ...

Tonight, Samantha and I worked on her letter to Santa. I wanted to be sure that the composed letter stated EXACTLY what she said, verbatim. And it does.

She started out with "Dear Santa and Wife ..." She is pretty insistent that Mrs. Claus is known as "Santa's wife," and she wanted to be sure to include the letter to her as well, I guess. Very thoughtful.

I totally expected her to say, "I've been a good girl this year." Imagine how much my heart swelled when, instead, she said, "I've been a good big sister this year."

And the part about not wearing diapers; only panties? Well, whenever she wants to tell someone that she is big and not a baby anymore, that is what she says. And she must have wanted to let Santa know how big she is now.

She was very specific about the two items on her list, and I wrote them exactly as she said them. These are two items that she saw in the store, and hasn't managed to forget about them ...

And if my heart wasn't swollen enough from the "big sister" quote, well, it just about burst when she followed her two requests with "a piggy bank for Sophia." It's true -- Sophia desperately needs a piggy bank, and I told Sam a couple weeks ago that we should ask Santa for one for her. I guess she remembered that and wanted it included on her letter because she knew that Sophia wouldn't be composing one this year. (This goes to show that she REALLY IS a good big sister)!

I asked her if there was anything else that she wanted to write on her letter, and that was when she told me that Santa has pretty eyes. I guess that I haven't really noticed, but I'm not as observant as her anyway; no one is.

Finally, I asked her how she wanted to sign it. Did she want to say, "Love, Sam or Love, Samantha?" She said, "Love, Sam. -- S-A-M." Yup, she knows how to spell Sam.
