Samantha's First Day of Kindergarten

Today was Samantha's first day of kindergarten.  She will be attending a local Christian school this year, four mornings a week (Tuesday through Friday).  She is SO excited to be going to this school ...

We packed her book bag a couple days ago, making sure that everything was labeled and ready to go for this morning.  We talked all about the plan (what days of the week she has school, and what time I will pick her up).

Yesterday, I heard her say to her sister, "Sophia, you can go to my new school tomorrow morning and meet my teacher, Mrs. Nichols.  But, you can't stay there.  I'm going to be there to learn and you will need to go back home with Momma and Jack."  Poor Little Sister ...

All ready for school:

Posing with her sister (she did this all on her own):

Samantha even has her own locker outside of the classroom for her coat, book bag and gym shoes:

Poor Sophia ... When we walked out of the school, she started sobbing and saying, "My Sammy ... Me stay with my Sammy."  After we got back home, she recovered and was perfectly fine.  She just wasn't happy about the initial separation.  What can I say, she loves her big sister dearly!

When I picked Samantha up from school at lunchtime today, she was a little upset because she didn't want to leave her pencil box at school (we had this same discussion on the first day of preschool last year!).  After much negotiation, I told her that we could bring it home with us today, but it would eventually need to stay at school.  No one is going to take it -- after all, it will be in her own desk with her name on it.  Other than that, she told me that she had a GREAT time!

Here's to a wonderful and fun year of learning!
