A Picnic

My kids seem to love picnics.  We don't even have to go anywhere for them; they are content with setting up a blanket and tablecloth in the front yard and carrying our lunch out the front door to a sunny spot that they have chosen.  We did quite a few picnics last year when Jack when Jack was a only a few months old.  Most of the time, he slept in his car seat while we indulged, and then woke up as we were finishing.  It was perfect ... I would spend time with him (likely nursing), while the girls would run off to play and burn off any extra calories that they had just consumed.

This year, Jack is able to partake in the picnic festivities.  He can sit up on his own and he can eat most of the same items that the girls are having with their lunch.  So last week, Jack had his first official picnic.  It's safe to say that he enjoyed it.

Next to Jack, Samantha is looking so grown up to me ...

Sophia is so serious about her food.

Somehow, the cucumbers made it to within Jack's reach, and he decided to try one on them.

And quite surprisingly, he ate two of them ... and loved them.

And then the girls took off to play while Jack and I enjoyed the warmth of the sun for a little while longer.  Even though we weren't outside for too long, I forgot how sensitive a baby's skin is and Jack managed to get a slight bit of color (i.e. red) on his arms.  Since then, I have been more careful to apply sunscreen to him, even if we are just going for a quick walk.
