Jack's birthday is a week away -- unbelievable!
That means that I am in full party mode in the Lapinski house. I get so excited to celebrate my babies' birthdays because I know that one day, they won't want a big party with lots of decorations and "fluff." While they are young, I am enjoying every minute of it.
Jack's first birthday has a farm theme, and as usual, I try to make as many crafts as I can so that I can incorporate the kids into everything. I love using a more creative side of my brain (so much of my work -- teaching and accounting business -- use my analytical side). I also like to use up any odds and ends around the house to keep myself on a budget. It's amazing how many craft items I have around here and how many things can be re-used from one party to another.
Sophia is my main worker bee. Wow, that girl can craft like no other! A few days ago, she helped me to create and decorate a picture that will hang above the dessert table. (Side note: about 2 years ago, I started using a canvas picture that I have hanging in the dining room as a backdrop for my parties. I take it down from the wall and cover it with an appropriately-themed design and hang it for the party. Afterwards, I strip it back it down and hang it up until the next event. I have used it at least five times now and the canvas is still as good as new!
Working in the garage, using sand (from an old aquarium) to create the dirt for the farm scene:
While the sand was drying, Sophia set to work painting the "1" that will be used as a decoration at the party:
At this time, we have also made the cutest cupcake toppers (sheep, pigs, chicks and cows) and painted some old wooden stables that we had around here. The girls have helped me gather any plastic farm animals that have been either in the toy box or stored in toy bins in their room. Those will be incorporated in various places. I also printed the cutest banner (for free!) and Sophia will be helping me with that tonight.
I can't wait to celebrate how special Jack's first year has been to me!
