With as many allergies as there seems to be these days, most of the school classrooms are not in favor of parents sending in a birthday treat/snack for the class now. Instead, they encourage us to send in "prizes" or something similar that the kids can still use to celebrate with their friends. After much consideration, I opted for a really great idea for Jimmy's classmates ...
I bought a play-doh party favor kit online for less than $15 and free shipping. There were exactly 8 sets of favors that we were put together (which happened to be the EXACT number of other preschoolers in his classroom!).
The kit included, for each friend -- a container of play-doh, a coloring book, a box of crayons, stickers and the bag that we wrote, "from James" on.
James was so happy to help and he really did a great job making sure that there was one of each item in the bag before moving it over to the other side of the table.
On his birthday, we will take these to school with us and he will have a chance to personally hand the bags out to each of his friends while they sing 'happy birthday' to him! Just a couple more weeks until we have a 4-year-old!
